More Than a Breeding Program—A Family Built Around Dogs

Welcome to West Coast Border Collies, where raising exceptional dogs has been a lifelong passion for more than three decades. Located in beautiful Temecula, California, my breeding program is built on honesty, experience, and a genuine love for producing healthy, intelligent companions that become cherished members of their families.

My name is Joni Gibson, and I have spent my entire life ranching and participating in rodeos. Growing up on the ranch taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and the special partnership that can exist between people and dogs. That partnership is something I've experienced every day with my Border Collies, and it has shaped not only my life but also my breeding philosophy.

Our Dogs Are Family First

At West Coast Border Collies, my dogs have never been "just dogs." They are members of my family and are involved in my everyday life. They share my home, my ranch, my work, and my heart. They are there during the early mornings feeding livestock, long days working cattle, evenings spent relaxing on the porch, and every ordinary moment in between.

I don't believe dogs belong isolated in kennels. They thrive when they are included as part of the family, and that's exactly how mine are raised. They receive daily affection, individual attention, and countless opportunities to learn, play, and simply enjoy life. Because they are so deeply woven into my daily routine, I know each dog's unique personality, strengths, and temperament, which allows me to make thoughtful breeding decisions and carefully match puppies with the families who are best suited for them.

Whether it's a Border Collie eagerly helping move cattle, joining me for agility and herding ball activities, or a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel curled up beside me at the end of the day, every dog has a special place in my home and in my life.

A Lifetime with Border Collies

Border Collies have been my trusted companions for decades. Their intelligence, athleticism, loyalty, and incredible work ethic continue to amaze me every day. I've relied on them while working cattle, traveling to rodeos, and managing everyday ranch life. They are always eager to learn, happiest when they have a job to do, and incredibly devoted to the people they love.

My breeding journey began in 1988 with two exceptional Border Collies. After my very first litter, word spread quickly. Families were impressed with the temperament, intelligence, and work ethic of my dogs, and referrals from happy puppy owners allowed my breeding program to grow naturally. More than 35 years later, word-of-mouth referrals remain the foundation of my program, something I consider one of my greatest accomplishments.

Why I Also Chose Cavaliers

As my program grew, I added Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, a breed that brings a different but equally wonderful personality into my home. Cavaliers are affectionate, gentle, and happiest when they are close to their people. Their loving nature beautifully complements the energy and drive of my Border Collies.

Although these breeds are very different, they share one important quality—they become true members of the family. They form deep bonds with their people and enrich everyday life with their love, loyalty, and companionship. That's exactly what I want every family who brings home one of my puppies to experience.

Responsible breeding begins long before puppies are born. Every breeding decision is made with health, temperament, and the future of the breed in mind.

Each breeding dog undergoes Embark DNA Health Testing, helping me make informed breeding decisions that support healthier future generations. I also believe that early socialization is one of the greatest gifts I can give a puppy. From the day they're born, my puppies are raised with daily love, gentle handling, and exposure to the sights and sounds of everyday life.
